This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for people in the European Union and the EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This website
- No cookies, no tracking. The website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, ads, social media plugins or tracking pixels. That is why there is no cookie banner.
- Fonts are on our own server. Nothing is loaded from Google or other third parties.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare, Inc., USA) stores technical data for every visit, such as your IP address, the time, the page and your browser. We use these logs only to run the website and keep it secure, and we do not analyse them. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework.
When you write to us
If you email us or use the contact form, we use your name, address and message only to answer you. The contact form does not send anything itself: it opens your own email app with your message ready to send. We delete your messages when they are no longer needed, at the latest after two years, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
The app
- Your notes are files on your device. Notes, PDFs, drawings, highlights and your learning progress are saved as files in a folder you choose. We have no server and no copy of them.
- iCloud. If that folder is in iCloud Drive, Apple syncs it between your devices under Apple’s own privacy policy. We have no access to it.
- No account, no analytics. The app has no sign-in, no tracking and no analytics of its own.
- Beta through TestFlight. If you test the beta, you install it with Apple’s TestFlight, which Apple runs under its own privacy policy. Apple shares with us what TestFlight collects for developers, such as installs, sessions, the device and system version, crash reports, and any feedback and screenshots you choose to send. Depending on how you joined and what you send, this can include your name and email address. We use this only to improve Bottled Note and delete it when it is no longer needed.
- Purchases. You buy Bottled Note through the App Store. Apple handles the payment. We only receive anonymous sales reports and never see your name or payment details.
- Notifications. The app sends at most two reminders, on day 7 and day 53 of your trial, and only if you allow them. They are created on your device.
- Crash reports. If you agreed in your device settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us. You can turn this off in Settings at any time.
AI, only if you choose it
- No AI. Bottled Note works fully without AI. Then nothing leaves your device.
- Apple Intelligence. Runs on your device. Your notes are not sent anywhere.
- Your own key (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or another service). If you add your own key, the parts of your notes you are learning with are sent directly from your device to the provider you chose. They never pass through us. That provider’s privacy policy and terms apply, and you are their customer. Your key is kept in your device’s keychain.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal data we hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted, restricted or handed over to you. You can object to its use at any time. Just write to hello@bottlednote.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the authority of the country where you live.
Applicable law
This policy is governed by Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is Meikirch, Switzerland, subject to mandatory rules that protect you as a consumer. More in our terms.
Changes
If Bottled Note changes in a way that affects your data, we will update this page and the date above.
